Marine
Science Associates, Inc. is a for-profit Florida corporation founded in 1998 by faculty from the University
of South Florida College of Marine Science (http://www.marine.usf.edu) as a vehicle to bring the scientific expertise of the college to bear on real-world problems in the private sector. Our
specialties include safety and security of maritime transportation system operations and infrastructure, operational ocean
observing systems, hydrodynamic numerical modeling of ocean and estuarine circulation, and monitoring of estuarine and
coastal ecosystems, as well as meeting planning and facilitation. In addition, we can draw upon the skills and resources of
other marine science faculty as needed for specialized applications. MSAI is not affiliated with the University of South
Florida. MSAI provides management services for the Tampa Bay Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System (TB-PORTS;
see http://tbports.org/) in collaboration with the NOAA National Ocean Service and the university. TB-PORTS is a network of oceanographic and meteorological
sensors in and around Tampa Bay that are telemetered continuously by radio and distributed to the maritime community and the
general public in real-time via the web and other electronic means. PORTS data are used for safe navigation of the bay by
commercial and recreational interests and for environmental protection. MSAI has provided oceanographic services for Tampa
Bay Water, Tampa Bay Desalination Systems LLC, PBS&J, Standard Concrete Products, Tampa Bay Pilots Association, Carnival
Cruise Lines, Woods Hole Group, Nova Southeastern University, ENSR, Mote Marine Lab, The Boeing Company, Janicki Environmental,
TECO Energy, HSW Engineering, the Suwannee River Water Management District, the St. Johns River Water Management District,
the City of Jacksonville, Mosaic Phosphates, Lewis Environmental Services, Moore & Company PA, Collins Law Group, and
Marine Desalination Systems LLC, among others. We have provided support for conferences, meetings, and workshops since 1990
for various marine-related organizations, including the Estuarine Research Federation, the Alliance for Coastal Technologies,
the American Geophysical Union, The Oceanography Society, The Coastal Society, the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, and the NOAA Coastal Services Center. MSAI provides
development, installation, operation, and maintenance of ocean observing system instrumentation and numerical modeling systems
through a network of subcontractors. MSAI operates 5 vessels from 10 ft to 31
ft with experienced US Coast Guard licensed captains to support field operations in coastal and estuarine waters.
